Advanced training in Sports Injury Therapy or Athletic Therapy involves injury assessment and rehabilitation. Treating a wide range of patients using various manual therapies, modalities, exercise prescriptions, and even bracing and taping, the goal is to help the patient return to usual activities more quickly and safely. Anyone can benefit – from a child who plays competitive sports, to an older adult recovering from knee or hip replacement surgery.
Sports massage therapy has a focus on pre-event preparation and post-event recovery, as well as treating many common sports injuries. The benefits can be better performance, faster recovery, less soreness, maintenance of flexibility, reduction in risk of injury and early identification of chronic injuries.
Alix Ryan RMT, Michelle Dougherty RMT, and James Noordam RMT each have advanced training in Sports Massage Therapy, Clinical Athletic Taping, and are each candidates for certification with the Canadian Sports Massage Therapy Association.
